Middle School Sports Update

Hello Eagles,

It has been awhile, but I would like to share some encouraging news about middle school sports.

Battlefield Middle School Conference Revised the Athletic Calendar for the 2020 – 2021 to align ourselves with the VHSL and to give our students the best chance of having seasons this year.

Note: Virginia must move out of Phase 3 in order to play the sports the VHSL deemed “moderate to high risk sports” or the guidelines must be rewritten from the State.

Season 1 Winter – Boys Basketball, Cheer, & Wrestling
Practices and tryouts begin Dec 14th
1st Contest will begin the week of Jan 5th
Season will end the week of Feb 1th

Season 2 Fall – Boys Soccer, Girls Basketball, Cheer, & Football
Practices & Tryouts begin Feb 8th
1st Contest will begin the week of Feb 22
Season will end the week of March 29th
Note: Spring Breaks will occur during this season for all schools.

Season 3 Spring – Girls Soccer, Track, Baseball, & Softball
Practices & Tryouts begin April 12th
Contests begin week of April 19th
Season will end by May 24th

The BMSC unanimously voted to not hold any conference playoffs for the 2020 – 2021 seasons. Playoffs and Tournaments will return for the 2021 – 2022 season.

*Please note due to the ongoing and fluctuating information that continues to be brought forth, schedules and timetables could change. Updates will be available as changes occur.

Game schedules will be released the week of Oct 12th.

Conditioning timetables are being discussed with coaches and we are looking at possible options to ensure our students, coaches, staff and anyone else involved is safe. Proper paperwork including an Athletic Physical will be required to participate.

Finally please note there are still a few hurdles we will have to get past, but we will look into every possible option to give our students the chance to play sports this year at CMS.

Please be smart and stay safe!

Middle School Athletic Update 8/13

I quickly want to share the current status of middle school athletics. We are currently following the same guidelines and timetables for Return to Play as set by the VHSL. However we are modifying a few things due to our resources here at the middle school. We are currently on “shutdown” for athletics. This means that we are just waiting to see how things continue to play out before bringing our students back to campus for any conditioning. No other middle schools are doing any offseason conditioning so we are going to stick with keeping our kids safe at home.

I am in daily discussions with the other Middle School AD’s along with Caroline High School’s AD, Mr Heizer. We are working on making an adjusted sports schedule that would follow very closely to the VHSL timetable but better suited for Middle School.

As more information comes forward then I will continue to share and update.
Feel free to reach out with any questions. Stay safe and go Eagles!

Middle School Athletic Update (July 7th)

Greetings Eagles!
I wish I had more answers to share, but right now we are in a “wait and see” situation. The VHSL is supposed to make an announcement in the coming days and weeks to hopefully give more clarity for the chances of Fall Sports. We will follow the same guidelines they put out and mimic the HS. That will keep things simple for us for athletics in Caroline County #oneCaroline

All of the other Battlefield Middle School Conference schools are not engaging in any offseason conditioning right now. CMS will remain in the wait and see for now.

If and when sports do return it is important to understand all the measures, policies and procedures that will have to take place and be followed everyday to ensure the safety of our students. Please refer and read through our links on our athletic blog. http://cmsathletics.blogs.ccps.us/athletic-forms-and-information/

All athletes will be required to have everything listed BEFORE they can participate/practice/play.
I hope to provide an update again soon once there is more information to share.

Go Eagles!
